Introduction

As an English class representative, I was asked to dress up in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit, also known as JK, for a class. At first, I was hesitant and embarrassed, but eventually agreed to do it. In this article, I want to share my experience of wearing a JK outfit and how it affected my learning and teaching in the English classroom.

The Preparation

Wearing a JK outfit was not something that I had ever done before, so I had to prepare myself mentally for it. I spent some time researching online for the attire, hair, and makeup that is typically worn with the outfit in Japan. I then ordered a JK costume online, which arrived a few days before the class. On the day of the class, I spent some time getting ready, putting on the costume, styling my hair, and applying makeup. It took me longer than usual to get ready, as every detail had to be perfect, or so I thought.

The Reaction

When I stepped into the classroom, all eyes were on me. I felt self-conscious and embarrassed, but also excited to see how my peers would react. To my surprise, some of my classmates complimented my outfit and even took pictures with me. However, I could see that some of my classmates were uncomfortable, which made me feel guilty for making them feel that way.

The Lesson

Despite feeling self-conscious and embarrassed, I had to focus on the reason I was there, which was to teach English. I tried my best to focus on the lesson, even though I was distracted by my attire. I found it challenging to be taken seriously in a schoolgirl outfit, but I managed to keep a straight face and maintained a professional attitude throughout the class.

The Outcome

After the class, I received mixed feedback. Some of my classmates appreciated my effort to make the class engaging and fun, while others felt that my attire was distracting and inappropriate.
